E-Statement Basics

What is an e-statement?

An e-statement is just an electronic means of receiving your regular monthly (or quarterly) account statement(s) from Columbus Metro FCU. Instead of receiving a paper statement by mail, you'll receive an e-mail notifying you that your statement is available for viewing online. The statement you see online will look exactly like the paper version.

What are the benefits of receiving an e-statement rather than a paper statement?

There are several benefits to receiving an e-statement rather than a paper statement. E-statements:

  • Save time - E-statements are available the first business day of the month, up to a week sooner than mailed statements. Log on and view your statements when it's convenient for you.

  • Fight clutter - A paper statement is just one more thing for your files (or that pile on your desk), while an e-statement can be quickly and easily stored on your PC or a disk. If you need a statement copy for any reason, just print one from your disk.

  • Provide security - Identity theft still tends to be a low-tech crime, often the result of bills, credit card solicitations or financial statements swiped from a garbage can or mailbox. E-statements mean that less of your financial information is vulnerable to identity thieves, since you access them through a secure Internet connection, and only after you enter your unique MetroWeb access code.

  • Save money - Printing and mailing statements costs a significant amount of money. When you elect to receive an e-statement, the credit union saves. Since credit unions are cooperatives, those savings come back to you as lower loan rates, higher deposit rates and new products and services.

What will I need to utilize e-statements?

To view your statement electronically, you will need:

  • A computer with Internet access;

  • Your account number and access code to log on to MetroWeb (click here for an application for MetroWeb);

  • An e-mail address;

  • A hard or floppy disk (if you want to download your statement for permanent storage);

  • An attached printer (if you want to print a hard copy of your statement); and

  • The free Adobe Reader software to view your statement

Is there a fee for using e-statements?

There is no charge for receiving your statements, regardless of whether you choose to receive them electronically or by mail. There is a fee for duplicate copies (those already provided to you by mail or online).

Signing Up For E-Statements

How do I sign up to receive e-statements?

To sign up, simply log on to MetroWeb using your account number and your access code. On the main menu, click on eStatement (listed under the Account Balances or History options). You will be directed to a page that explains the e-statement option. If you decide that you want to receive your statements electronically, type your e-mail addres in the box provided and click the Enroll me now button.

If you're not using MetroWeb yet, you can print and complete our MetroWeb application. To receive e-statements, simply check the box for Electronic Statement Delivery and we'll take care of the rest.

What if I decide later that I'd rather have my statement mailed to me?

You can opt out of e-statements any time. To do so, log on to MetroWeb and click on the eStatement link. At the bottom of the page, you'll see a button that says, Switch me back to paper statements. Click on this link and your account will be updated automatically. Your next account statement will arrive by mail.

I have more than one account. Do I need to sign up for e-statements on each account?

If you wish to receive an e-statement for more than one account, you will need to sign up for each account separately. This gives you the flexibility to receive one statement by mail and another statement electronically if you so choose.

What if I need to change my email address?

You can change the e-mail address used to notify you that your e-statement is available at any time. Simply log on to MetroWeb and click on the eStatement link. You'll see a section called New E-mail Address. Type in the new address and click the button that says Change My E-mail Address. You'll receive immediate confirmation that your e-mail address has been changed.

What is the deadline for opting in or out of e-statements for the month?

To ensure that you receive your statement in the form you desire, you should opt in or opt out of e-statements by 5:00 p.m. on the last business day (Monday through Friday, excluding holidays) of the month.

Viewing Your E-Statement

How will I know when my e-statement is ready?

You will receive e-mail notification that your statement is available for viewing online.

How will I view my statement online?

To view your statement, you will log on to MetroWeb using your account number and access code. On the menu on the left-hand side of the page, click on eStatement (found under the Account Balances or History options). When you reach the e-statement page, click Get my statement.

Do I need any special software to view my e-statement?

You will need the Adobe® Reader® on your computer. If you do not have Adobe Reader, you can download it now for free.

How often will I receive an e-statement?

You will receive an e-statement as often as you currently receive a paper statement. For most members, you will receive a monthly statement. Other members, however, may only receive a statement quarterly.

How long will my statements be available on MetroWeb?

Each statement will be available online for 12 months. We recommend that you print or save a copy of each statement for future reference.

How do I get a copy of a statement that is not available electronically?

If you need a copy of a statement that is no longer available electronically, you will need to contact us. You can stop in any of our offices, call us at 614.239.0210 or 800.986.3876, or email us. There is a charge of $5 per statement.

Will I still get the newsletter and other inserts that are normally mailed with the statements if I receive an e-statement?

You won't miss any of the information provided to our members who receive printed statements. The notification email you receive when your statement becomes available will have links to the current issue of our Credit Views newsletter and any other important information included in our statement mailing.

E-Statement Security

Are e-statements safe?

E-statements are extremely safe because they may only be accessed through MetroWeb, which uses state-of-the-art security. All data transmitted between you and the credit union is automatically encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, ensuring the safety of your personal financial information.

The notification e-mail you receive is not secure. However, this e-mail does not include any information about your account; instead, it provides you with the link to access your statement using your account number and MetroWeb access code. In fact, e-statements may be even safer than paper statements, which pass through many hands and may sit in an unsecure mailbox before you collect your mail.

Is my e-statement confidential?

The confidentiality of the account information available on MetroWeb is protected at all times since only you know your access code. All MetroWeb transactions and inquiries — including viewing your e-statement — require both your credit union account number and access code. If you believe your access code has been compromised, you can use MetroWeb to change it. To do so, log on with your current access code and select Change Profile from the main menu. Click on the Change Your Access Code link and you'll be guided through the process of selecting a new one.
